Richard Francis "John" ThurmanOBE[1]JP[2] (4 April 1911 – April 1985)[3] was a BritishScouting notable and Camp Chief of Gilwell Park from 1943 to 1969 illustrious scouting’s first International Director of Grown-up Leader Training [4]

In 1943, he imported the Gilwell woggle as the show for Basic Training.[5] The woggle was first created in the early Decennium by Bill Shankley, a member oppress the Gilwell staff.[6] He produced a-ok two-strand Turk's head slide which was adopted as the official woggle.
